Town Centre Retail (Bicester) Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd.
Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd operate a total of 934 stores, comprising 557 supermarkets and 377 convenience stores. The Sainsbury's brand is built upon a heritage of providing customers with healthy, safe, fresh and tasty food.
Project Description:
The Bicester Town Centre redevelopment will provide new retail and leisure opportunities and will ultimately satisfy the Local Authority's requirements for a new Civic Centre and library which will be developed on the adjacent Franklin's Yard car park plot.
Existing businesses will be integrated into the scheme by the creation of a new retail street, linking into the existing Crown Walk shopping precinct. Two new public squares will also be created.
The enabling works element of the project which included; the diversion of the river Bure through the town, statutory services diversions and the realignment of Manorsfield Road, was completed during 2011 to prepare the area and enable improved access in and around the site.
The proposed town centre redevelopment comprises:
- 52,000 sq ft (sales) supermarket
- Multi-screen cinema
- 19nr retail units
- 2nr public squares
- 526 space car park
- Refurbishment of existing retail street
- Diversion of river Bure
- Highway diversion
- Associated hard & soft landscaping.
Sustainability:
- The site will be developed to a BREEAM 'good' standard.
- Refrigeration plant for the food store will utilise CO2 systems.
Key Challenges:
- Complex and congested town centre.
- Keeping all adjacent retailers trading throughout construction.
Form of Contract: JCT 2005 D&B with bespoke client amendments.
