Project Description:
The site on which the Sainsbury's store will be built currently contains a church, which is to be dismantled piece-by-piece for relocation elsewhere. The initial brief required Arc to design a bespoke stand alone retail unit on the site. However, the client was approached by a religious group and the brief revised to provide two upper floors for religious community facilities.
As well as the feasibility design, Arc have been involved with the planning stage of the project, producing elevations for the sensitive site. Initial feedback from the planners has been positive.
Key Challenges:
- Topography of the site - sloping site.
- Buildings either side of the site are four storeys high, so the proposed Sainsbury's Local and upper parts have been designed to maintain the character of the existing streetscape.
