South Central Ambulance - South Central Ambulance Service / HART Eastleigh

South Central Ambulance Services (SCAS) provides emergency and non-emergency ambulance services in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire.
Project Description:
The SCAS project in Eastleigh, Hampshire consisted of the refurbishment of an old office and warehouse building into a state of the art ambulance station serving both Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART) and SCAS organisations.
The refurbishment of the existing building included the provision of new; medical gas rooms, training rooms, chemical stores, shower and toilet complexes, general office areas, sluice rooms, two large ambulance garages (the garage areas provide vital support for maintaining ambulances on the road) and lecture rooms with the latest audio visual technology.
The HART and SCAS areas had to be separated as they worked on different time frames and so careful consideration of services separations and security access was essential.
Sustainability:
- Onsite generation were utilised to pre-heat the hot water requirement.
Key Challenges:
- The key issue with this project was the constraints of the existing building which had very low floor to ceiling heights. The co-ordination of the services was critical to ensure sufficient head heights were maintained in all occupied areas.
