Kingston Hospital NHS Trust - Extension and Refurbishment of Princess Dental Wing

Extension and Refurbishment of Princess Dental Wing
Kingston Hospital NHS Trust provides a full range of diagnostic and treatment services to approximately 320,000 people locally. They are proud of their reputation as the largest single site District General Hospital in London and their Maternity Unit is the second biggest in London.
Project Description:
We acted as the project manager for a significant two storey extension to the Princess Dental Wing at the Kingston Hospital NHS Trust, incorporating refurbishments to the existing building. This doubled the size of the existing building and provided seven additional consulting rooms, new entrance reception and x-ray rooms on the ground floor, plus new offices and staff areas on the first floor. Refurbishment of the ground floor of the existing building involved alterations to consulting rooms to achieve much improved space utilisation to deliver a complete refurbishment of all patient areas on the ground floor. The works were completed in two phases.
Phase 1 - incorporated decant of consulting rooms and refurbishment to the existing building. Due to limitations of decant space the existing building was then handed over and re-occupied.
Phase 2 - incorporated the new build element.
Key Challenges:
- Complex site logistical issues requiring careful planning and management to minimise disruption to the dental service.
The project was successfully completed on budget and on programme.
