Hanover Housing Association - Bramble Court Extra Care Development, South Shields

Hanover Housing Association is a leading specialist as a provider of retirement housing and related services. They manage almost 19,000 high quality mixed tenure Retirement and Extra Care properties on more than 600 estates and operate in over 175 local authority areas across England and Wales.
Project Description:
The Bramble Court development consists of a 42 flat Extra Care
scheme with associated communal facilities and 4 bungalows. The
project was developed on an old school site in South Shields. The
buildings are constructed on a sloping linear site in the centre of
a residential area. The design maximises the potential of the site,
whilst offering the residents private and communal open space. The
project was completed on time and within budget.
Sustainability:
- BREEAM multi-residential rating "Very Good" (Extra Care)
- Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 (bungalows)
- Air Source Heat Pumps
- Solar hot water generation
- 10% carbon reduction measures.
Key Challenges:
- Development of a sloping linear site adjacent to a Site of Special Scientific Interest
- Restricted access into and around the site.
- Managing neighbour relations in a heavily populated residential area.
