Services: Risk Management, Project Management

British Airways is a full service global airline, offering year-round low fares with an extensive global route network flying to and from centrally-located airports.

British Airways Compass Centre Power Integrity Upgrade

Project management of upgrade of power integrity systems to the Compass Centre at Heathrow Airport, which was the technical operational nerve centre for all British Airways flights.

Included provision of three completely autonomous electrical distribution systems with three new transformers, two standby generators and new UPS.

Key Challenges:

  • Management of changeover from new to old systems for the whole building required extremely meticulous planning and coordination with multiple key stakeholders over a long period of time. Costs to British Airways for a loss of power to the building for a 3 to 12 hour period equated to £6M hence the criticality.

Compass Centre Incident Centre AV Upgrades

Project management of a complete overhaul and upgrade to A/V systems to the main Incident Centre for airline incidents not only for British Airways but also for other airlines.

Project was completed on programme and on budget one week prior to the events of September 11th.  Systems were therefore immediately put into intensive use for the biggest single incident in airline history and they all worked without any issues.

Key Challenges:

  • A low value project but extremely critical, requiring meticulous planning to totally minimise down time to systems due to the possibility of an incident occurring at any time.
