Anglia Ruskin University - Guild House, Peterborough

Anglia Ruskin University is one of the largest universities in the East of England, whose focus is on student success and ongoing commitment to supporting wider access to higher education.
Project Description:
Refurbishment of a 1960's office building into a state of the art medical training complex. The refurbishment included the provision of new medical skills laboratories in the style of hospital wards fitted out with all hospital features. The skills laboratories provided the correct environment to enable nurses to train in real life scenarios.
The project also included new lecture theatres with latest audio visual technology to cater for 240 students. In line with all education establishments new classrooms were provide, some with video conferencing capabilities. A new library was also provided as well as a café area for students.
A new suite of offices were also required, backed up by 2 No comms rooms as well as new toilet accommodation. The existing services were re-utilised to their fullest extent without hindering the high level of finish.
Sustainability:
- Air source heat pumps were utilised to maintain close control conditions in the comms room.
Key Challenges:
- Utilising existing services and maintaining suitable environmental conditions within each area and combining this with the latest audio visual technologies.
- Providing a highly serviced education facility within a 1960's office block provided its own unique challenges.
Form of Contract: JCT 2005 Design and Build with specific amendments required by Client's legal advisors.
